It’s nice when you are chosen as celebrant because of the photos on your website gallery. But that’s exactly why Robert and Alma decided I was to be their celebrant. And I’m very glad they did because I was treated to a very spectacular event on the Brisbane River. Robert and Alma had met in the Philippines in a chance meeting. But they connected very quickly and knew that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.
Robert and Alma live in Mackay Queensland, so did our paperwork preparation via email. When they arrived in Brisbane the day before the wedding, I drove up to see them and finalise everything. We had a great chat and laugh about their journey together, plus we solved the world’s problems! So with paperwork sorted out, the ceremony completed and a glass of wine, we were ready for the big moment. I have to admit that I love “wow factor”. So standing on the deck of a paddle boat on the Brisbane River with the Story Bridge in the background was awesome!
Complete with nerves, Robert stood next to me patiently waiting for his bride to appear. I wouldn’t let him look at her until she arrived on the deck. Alma looked beautiful and was in quite a hurry to get into position. In fact, she left her bridesmaid behind as she raced down the aisle to stand next to Robert. The ring ceremony was equally amusing when we discovered that the groom’s ring had been left in a bag. We chatted and joked with the guests until suddenly a bright gold ring appeared behind Robert’s back. So it was on with the ceremony again!
With vows said, promises made and a ring ceremony complete, Robert and Alma were pronounced as husband and wife. It was a lovely occasion with memories that will last for years to come. Two people from two different cultures have now joined to make one incredible life together. Congratulations Robert and Alma!
