Michael and Cheryl are a mature aged couple with “wow factor”! This resulted in a very memorable wedding day for everyone who attended. When we had our first meeting, Michael asked most of the questions while Cheryl did a lot of the listening. We hit it off and they asked me to be their celebrant. What really appealed to me was the obvious connection this couple have. It was particularly obvious considering that Michael was well over six foot tall while his bride to be is an energetic “pocket rocket”! I knew that I was going to enjoy their wedding day that came with a couple of unexpected surprises.
The day arrived and I drove to an over 50’s resort names Lewani Palms in the northern Gold Coast suburb of Ormeau that Michael and Cheryl had chosen. The venue chosen for their ceremony was very impressive and not what I expected to find upon my arrival. Originally, this was planned to be an outdoor wedding. But it had been raining during the night and more was predicted to be on the way. So family members and friends in the resort rolled up their sleeves and set out to prepare the Community Hall. When I walked in, I was met with a beautiful red carpet leading up to where we would be standing. Plus, the tables in the room for the reception looked beautiful with white table cloths, flowers and bud lights. It was a very impressive sight, as was the “buzz” in the hall from all of the activity going on.
Michael had that fantastic nervous energy that you regularly see in grooms. His Best Man and Groomsman were just as excited as he was and they did a superb job of helping to keep Michael distracted. With minutes to go, I turned to Michael and saw that his eyes were full of tears. I think it’s great too see a guy openly express his emotions prior to such a significant moment in his life. When the bridal car arrived, the tears disappeared and our groom was ready to go! Cheryl got out of the car sporting a new “Pink” (the artist) hairdo and a stunning strapless wedding dress. She looked fabulous and absolutely shone with confidence as she was escorted to her groom. The ceremony began and our couple both spoke confidently, happily said their vows and proudly put the rings on each other’s finger. Once they were pronounced as husband and wife, the party began for Michael and Cheryl. And I’m sure that life as Mr and Mrs Murphy will see that party continue for a long time to come!
